Tricks of the Trade

Saturday morning in the life of me...  Laundry going and working my business before a hair appointment!!  On to more Jewelry tips:

Doubling is a great way to shorten a long necklace.  Take a 30" or longer necklace and double it.  We've all done this many, many times.  Have you ever noticed how as the day goes on the necklace shifts until one strand is choking you and the other is hanging really long?  I recommend a "Clip-It" to keep your necklace from sliding. Pictured is "Ice Crystal", a 48" necklace.  It has matching earrings and bracelet.

Flipping is used to give a new look to a pendent style necklace.  To achieve "flipping" just take two necklaces, one with a pendent and one on top of the other.  Flip the pendent around both necklaces 2 to 5 times until the desired length is achieved.  To undo, simply reverse the process.  I've used "Grace" and "Silverado" in this picture.

Framing acts the same as a frame around a picture, drawing the eyes to the pendent.  Take a  pendent necklace and frame it with a longer necklace.  I have "Grace" framed by "Runway" pictured.

You can extend most necklaces with the matching bracelet to add 7"-8".  Just make sure the clasps are the same!!  It changes the whole look.  "Ladylike" necklace and bracelet both have magnetic closures.

The "Butterfly" technique is a great way to use a pin.  Take a 30" or longer clasped necklace with the clasp in the middle.  Put both stands behind your neck the the two loops hanging in front, like in the top picture.  Open a pin, catch both looped ends and close.  I've shown this with "Shine" necklace and "Golden Girl" pin.

Speaking of pins...  Too many people have discounted the beauty of a pin.  I guess maybe it's considered by some to be outdated, but I prefer to think of them as elegant.  You can use them for so many purposes: pendents for necklaces or accents on handbags, scarves, wraps, belts, hats and coats.  When using on jackets/cardigans place the pin on the left shoulder at the base of your collarbone.  This will draw the eyes up bringing attention to your face!  I have "Pearl's Night Out" shown with "Fashion Sense" in the picture.

I have a couple more tricks up sleeves that I will show you next time.  I want to venture into a couple of my favorite pieces and show you some of the different ways they can be worn!!  Are you as excited as me?!

Wow...  My first blog ever...  I'm a little in awe of myself!!  As you can see from my profile, I am a mother of 4 great kids (12, 9, 8, and 5).  I have a 9-5 j-o-b, but I LOVE selling Premier Designs Jewelry!!  My goal is to earn enough through PDJ to get us into a bigger house (I don't know that 2 bathrooms will hold us much longer)!

Today we are going to go through some of the different ways to wear jewelry.  I do these tips and techniques at my parties, so if you want to see them in person, just let me know!

Wearing jewelry is not optional for me.  Even before I started selling, I would have parties to get my share of free jewelry.  Jewelry helps add polish to your look.  It finishes it.  Think about it:  when you go into the bakery which cupcake are you going to buy?  I'm going for the one with the pretty frosting and sprinkles!  When you go and look at model homes, they have the front yard looking pretty so that you are impressed before you even walk through the door.  It's the same thing with jewelry.  People will form their first impression before you open your mouth, so it's important to make sure we look how we want people to see us.  I try not to go too overboard, but sometimes I fail.  I just love the way jewelry makes me feel!!

Remember: it takes 3 to 4 pieces of accessories to have a "put together" look.  These accessories can be any extras you add.  I LOVE scarves and belts in addition to my earrings.  Take a scarf and a belt with earrings and a broach and you're polished.  I always add a bracelet with my watch, too.

NEVER leave home without your earrings.  Earrings will frame your face and draw attention to your eyes and mouth.

Now, you will have to excuse my photography, as it has never been a strong suit of mine.

First I will show you how to layer your necklaces.  This is super simple and most of us do this regularly.  Just take two or more necklaces of similar lengths and place them on top of one another, creating a different look and texture.  Two of my favorite necklaces to layer are "Florence" and "Whimsical".  When I draw the antiqued gold together with my belt, earrings ("Old World") and bracelets ("Hamilton" and "Mod") it looks great together.

Next is the "Y Look".  I have used "Elemental".  Take a long necklace and come around behind your neck with one side short and one side long in the front.  Open the short side, and put the long side through it.  Adjust as needed.  That sounds difficult to follow, but it makes sense if you know what you're doing.  Just take your long necklace that is clasped and hang it around your neck, open in the front.  You will have two loops like when you tie your shoes.  Take one side of the necklace and put it thorough the loop on the other side, then arrange it on your neck so that you have the "tail" hanging centered.  I paired "Elemental" with the bracelets "Nuevo"  and "Rosie", watch "Tic Toc" and "Firefly" earrings.  I so wish this picture was better to show you how great this ensemble works!!

The turquoise jewelry is so hot right now.  I love our "Cabo" set.  The two strand necklace can be worn short or long and the enhancer really pops.  Add the paired bracelets and "Contemporary" bracelet with "Orbit" earrings and you have the perfect set to pair with cowboy boots or black pumps!

"Twisting" is like a blast from the past.  Do you remember twisty beads?  My aunt Donna had every color imaginable and I would get in so much playing in them!!  In these picture, I have "Sunny" and "Jewel Box".  You can accomplish "twisting" two ways.  If you want the necklace chunkier and short just take the two necklaces (clasped) and stretch between your two index fingers then twist.  Secure in the back with a "Clip It" and you are all set.  If you want the necklace long:  Unclasp both necklaces.  Attach the claw closure of one necklace to the hook closure of the second necklace. Hold the clasped portion with one hand and then twist one necklace around the other.  When twisted all the way down, simply hook the claw to the second necklace.

Kids are calling, so next time we cover a few other things!!  Thanks- Kady
